Underwater: Digital Testers

“Underwater” is a new live performance project that explores the acoustic world of marine life by An-Ting (composer) and Ian Gallagher (creative technologist). Using our 360-degree hydrophone set, immersive compositions, and Unreal Engine, we record sounds from coral reefs, fish, whales and other underwater creatures, integrating them into original 3D compositions and visuals. The result is a unique underwater soundscape brought to life through a multi-sensory hybrid online and in-person performance, immersing the audience in a multi-dimensional world.

Digital Testers

The digital version of Underwater is a gaming performance, where the audience can join the digital world with their computers everywhere in the world. We are calling for paid digital testers and one tester coordinator in May 2026. Testers will be able to preview the innovative performance, share their feedback, and have opportunity to learn more about the technology we use to create the performance.

There are two types of testers we are calling:

Testers (between 11 May and 22 May)

  • Responsible for attending at least three testing sessions
  • Give brief written or aural feedback after each session
  • Receive £50 (through invoice) at the end of the testing period

Tester Coordinator (between 27 April and 29 May)

  • Coordinate the testing sessions and communicate between the artists and testers
  • Roughly five hours a week on average for four weeks
  • Mostly remote work, occassionally require to work at the Immersive Visualisation and Simulation Lab
  • Payment of £300
  • Potential longer engagement with the project after May 2026

Each testing session will last between 45 minutes to one hour, with an optional discussion at the end. Please register your place via this form before Friday 17 April 2026. Please note that there will be interviews for the tester coordinator applicants.
